It’s Fashion Week, specifically London Fashion Week. So, whether you’re endlessly refreshing your instagram feed for the latest Molly Goddard offering or eagerly awaiting Riccardo Tisci’s first collection for Burberry, this line up of records (worthy of a catwalk strutting Niomi) are here to see you through the week.
A$AP Rocky – Fashion Killa
Since name checking every brand in the book back in 2013 with the release of Fashion Killa, A$AP has had a huge impact on the Fashion Industry; collaborating on collections with JW Anderson to most recently with Under Armour (which entails a pop up designed 90s style skate warehouse party in his hometown of Harlem, yeah, we all wished we were invited too).
Madonna – Vogue
Nothing quite says fashion like the 80s New York Ballroom Scene, so it’s only fitting to include this tribute in the line up. Strike a Pose.
George Michael – Freedom ’90
Boasting cameos from the likes of Naomi Campbell, Tatjana Patitz, Linda Evangelista, Christy Turlington, Cindy Crawford and directed by David Fincher, this record truly cemented ‘The Supers’ as household names.
David Bowie – Fashion
Yes, a bit of a cop out to name this in the Fashion Week Edition of 5TYNTW, but it is Bowie after all. Acclaimed by Bowie as a follow up to The Kinks’ Dedicated Follower Of Fashion, this track draws comparisons between fascism and fashion, specifically the flamboyance of the New Romantics. Beep Beep.
Sampha – (No One Knows Me) Like The Piano
One to nurse the post fashion week hangovers, this soul soothing song from Sampha features model of the year, activist and force to be reckoned with, Adwoa Aboah, dancing in gold dust. Check out her platform and community called Gurls Talk, promoting freedom of speech in young women.
